I took another vacation from blogging, but I'm back. I will try to stay more consistent. I have a lot of fresh topics to wet your whistle!
The old poll (which is really old) had to do with the Octomom situation. I had asked what we as a society should do about this and future situations like this mother. I will address the two biggest vote getters in the poll.
1) The mother should be forbidden to have that many children in vitro. (58% of the votes) Yikes everyone. I know that option sounded like the best choice but I wonder if you all thought through how exactly that would be enforced and regulated. Would then the government be involved in some sort of legal restriction of the number of children we can have? I don't know about you, but that level of government intrusion into such a basic right (to have kids) is super scary. And what if someone violates that limit...does the mother go to jail, and/or are the children aborted?
2) She should be allowed to have them but limited in the amount of government (taxpayer) support she can recieve. (29% of the votes) This is the choice I voted for. Don't get me wrong, I do not wish poverty on the family, but this seems like the only "right" choice. She is allowed to have as many kids as she wishes (providing she cares for them well) but if she is not in a good financial situation it is the role of family, friends, church, and private organizations (like the one she is recieving support from Angels in Waiting) This would also deter future mothers from seeing this as any type of successful way to manipulate the government assistance programs.
All in all...it is a really tough and weird situation!
The new poll is regarding elderly drivers.
Yesterday I was nearly side-swiped by an elderly man who was clearly unable to drive. He wandered around both lanes going our direction (with no signal or even looking) and at one point was across the double yellow line into one of those turn lanes in the middle of the road GOING STRAIGHT!!
The new poll gives a few possible senarios for dealing with this issue that I am sure most of us have faced. Some people find it funny or even feel sorry for these drivers (I do a little too!), but seriously these drivers are as dangerous as drunk drivers (who no one finds humorous) and I find myself more frustrated, concerned, and upset than I do empathetic.
Vote away!

Manny,
You have been a part of our lives now for almost two years. You were the
addition that I never planned on having. After three kids and 7 plus year...

Oh what, you mean like a government telling women they can't have an abortion? That kind of government intrusion? I agree.
And while I voted for this one, I did give a lengthy explanation, I hope you'll agree.
First, a quick point Carrie-
Have you ever seen an abortion video? It makes your stomach sick at the pointless slaughtering of a little baby (almost always) because it is an inconvenience to the mother who made a choice to have sex. Meanwhile millions of people would give anything to adopt a child. It is so, so, wrong and breaks my heart. Perhaps if you have a child someday and hold a newborn, or see a ultrasound of your baby sucking it's thumb in your belly you'll have new thoughts....maybe not. Either way, the current law is the current law and you are absolutely right. If you support "reproductive rights" of women you should be appalled at the idea that the government would be in the business of telling women when they should and shouldn't have kids....so how can you possibly vote for that option. Doesn't seem consistent with your beliefs!
Changing the subject from the Octomom-- we dealt with this driving situation with my Grandpa before he died. He was clearly not fit to be on the road-- would try to beat people into intersections, didn't pay attention to traffic signs-- but he was too stubborn to listen to us tell him he couldn't drive anymore. We finally forced him to take drivers tests, and he finally failed. It was hard on all of us, but safer in the end! Interesting topic choice!
Your comments on point #2 were very good. I agree. I think of abortion as similar to what the Israelites were doing at times in the OT offering their children to Molech. They were sacrificing their kids to an idol god; today we sacrifice our to the god of convenience. God have mercy on.

Okay but this woman was having 6 children for herself, and on her own. There is just a slight difference of circumstances. I think that if somebody gets pregnant but doesn't think they can handle the responsibility, of course my first choice would be adoption. I'm not a monster, and nobody is "pro-abortion."
When the situation is controlled, like this octomom case is, I think things should be handled differently. especially what she did. It's not like she couldn't get pregnant and needed a boost with in vitro. She just wanted a bunch of kids for herself without a plan to take care of them. That, to me, seems irresponsible. I think if you're making a choice to bring children into the world, you need to have a plan.
And no, I've never seen a video, but I have been subjected to many large images of half fetuses. So, I'm not completely blind to the concept. I realize how hard it is for women to make that kind of decision, but that's also why I appreciate that there is the option. Just because I can get an abortion, doesn't mean I will. See what I mean?
